St. Petersburg Men's Chorus

Do you like to sing?

Here you are. You stand or sit at a crossroads. You are trying to make up your mind whether to join the St. Petersburg Men's Chorus, debating whether there is anything that you can gain by enlisting in its ranks. You are wondering what it is that the Chorus Family could possibly offer you. Suddenly there are all these questions that beg an answer. That you are reading this means there is a distinct possibility you will join our ranks and in doing so, become part of a wonderful fellowship of like-minded individuals who are hell-bound for musical adventure and who care deeply about each other. WELCOME!

If you are a singer, be aware that male singers come in all sizes, shapes, ages, and abilities.  Many are gay men who wish to express themselves through song; many are straight men who enjoy doing the same.  We've never experienced any issues with mixing these two types of men; the dynamics are always 'smooth.'  This particular group recognizes they are singers foremost, and that sexual orientation does not play a part in this endeavor.  Many have extensive experience while others are unable to read music when they start with us.  There are some who become consumed with the environment; others simply like to sing periodically - but with passion.   There are those that have a social agenda or crusade in mind (our brother 'activists') while others simply want to sing and make good music.  There are men who are able to work successfully within a group with the sole intention of merging their voices in harmony.  There are some men who find this 'group' mentality somewhat of a challenge.  They are what we call the 'Divas' of the singing world.  Divas do not actually work as well within the group since they believe, "...it's all about them."  They love the spotlight.  We don't own any spotlights.

If you are not a singer, we still need your support.  Check out the 'Volunteers' section and please consider the 'Fifth Section' as your area of expertise.

"WHAT DO I GAIN BY AN ASSOCIATION WITH THE ST. PETERSBURG MEN'S CHORUS?"

...you may ask. Primarily, you will gain a unique and fulfilling MUSICAL experience. We do several concerts a year - what else would a music performance organization do? There is also the social interaction that membership implies. I say "implies" because membership never guarantees social interaction unless you are willing to seek socialites and alliances within the organization and work to maintain them. Yes, you have to "work" to be "social." There is also the charity-related "work" that comes with being a member of a not-for-profit corporation.

The Chorus demands hard work on many levels. As odd as it may sound, a chorus is not a democracy.  Be assured that the more Members meet the challenges put to them, the more we stand to gain by our association. We gain a new voice to add to the richness of the choral experience. We gain a fresh perspective and a different point of view. We gain another willing person - we hope you are willing - to do the work involved with a group such as ours. We gain a whole new set of talents and skills to enrich and assist the chorus in its search for new experiences to bring to our audience. We also gain a supportive friend.

Be aware that we are a chorus who is dedicated to song first, being social second.
