Artistic Director

SPMC actively seeking dedicated Artistic Director with experience who wishes to cultivate a men’s chorus. This position is not gender specific, but a mature, nurturing attitude is encouraged.  Diplomacy is a must.

Candidate must show dedication and actions that support musical excellence, community service, and the ability to reach a wide range of audience by being in tune with current demographics, with the ability to mix both classical and current genres.

A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the dynamics and mechanics of a self-supporting, not for profit organization. Candidates must be able and willing to negotiate with various perceptions within the chorus, as well as with the public. SPMC has deliberately left the descriptor ‘gay’ out of the chorus name to provide inclusion to all men who wish to sing; candidate must understand that branding the chorus as ‘gay’ severely limits our ability to communicate with both the public and with sponsors.  Our name is about what we do on stage, not in bed.

Other than everyday business communications, email will be discouraged. The ability to use a phone with your voice instead of your fingers will be necessary to provide a solid basis of communication between all members.

Initially, the only compensation will be good will and the knowledge you are helping to make music that has meaning. Once the chorus is established both in membership and financially, compensation will be revisited.

The St. Petersburg Men’s Chorus must be a team effort to succeed.  This is not about ‘your’ chorus unless the expression is used with pride of our achievements. You will be in charge of the music; the Board of Directors and Officers will be in charge of the business components. If you support the Officers of SPMC, those Officers will support you. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate exceptional ‘team player' skills.

All sections except for "Biographies - Membership" have been completed but there are always changes in the works.  Please keep checking back for updates and additional materials.

It's been a LOooong time since we were able to get this chorus back on its feet.  But it will take a relatively short time (a year?) to prepare for our first concerts.  Although we may participate in next June's PRIDE event and some type of Christmas presentation, our primary goal will be to prepare for international GALA 2012 in Denver, Colorado.

If we do anything 'holiday-like' for November - December 2011, it will be short and sweet.  Doing a holiday-oriented concert consumes an inordinate amount of time to do it right.  Let's face it; you want your audience to return for the next concert. Keep checking with 'News and Events' for updates, and 'Our Next Concert' for more information on our plans.
